Three Word Thursday #21

July 29, 2009

Welcome to Three Word Thursday #21. This week, joining the quondam word-list, we have sevidical; morsicant; & veteratorian. We also have a whole list of perspicacious writers. If you enjoy reading my story, leave a comment then click on the names of the other players and go see how they used the words. You’ll be entertained (and possibly educated) all at once.

Getting Even

Miles from town, Roland & Julia, two young lovers, sat side-by-side on the dock dipping their toes in the moon silvered water.  They stared dreamily at the stars, waiting for one to fall so they could make a wish.

Suddenly, Roland uttered a sevidical oath and jumped to his feet.  He began slapping at himself and yelling, “Get them off!  Get them off!”

“Oh my, what is it?”  Julia cried.  She jumped to her feet and watched helplessly as Roland tore at his clothes.

“What moriscant torture is this?”  Roland cried.  “Some horrid bug is eating me alive.”  Naked, he dove into the water and began scrubbing himself.

Julia reached into her purse and extracted a small white square which she shook out. It was a plastic bag.  She carefully lifted Roland’s clothes into it, then hurried away.  She was crossing the beach before Roland recovered enough to realize that she’d gone — and taken his clothes with her.  “Julia, wait!”  He cried, swimming hastily toward the dock.

Julia climbed into the car.  The engine revved.  The headlights came on.  The car reversed out of its parking place, then rolled forward into the night, leaving him nothing but a view of red tail lights.

On the dock lay a small vial.  Still in the water, resting his arms on the weathered wood, Roland poked the bottle with his finger, turning it so he could read the label.  “Itching Powder.”

He guessed that this was Julia’s less then veteratorian way of telling him she knew that he’d been cheating on her.
