Screen Shot

Do you want to build a free website? There’s a new free website service on the net — hpage.com. I spend some time at hpage and worked a bit on building a website. This is a screen shot of my design (click to enlarge).

The template I chose was one of over 340 designs.  You do not have to choose a template though.  If you have the expertise you may modify or make your own design.

If you don’t have the expertise to create your own design, you can still customize your template.  The help menu will take you through the procedure one step at a time.  I found the directions were written quite clearly.  I did have trouble on one step, but there is a large and active forum where users can get help.

The collage above is a sample of four customized templates of other hpage users. Clearly they are all unique and very attractive.

This first help screen (click to enlarge) greets you upon signing in to hpage, and takes you through the process — step-by-step — of creating your very own website.

page 2.bmp

This help screen (click to enlarge) allows you to chose how much control you want over your blog design. If you know no html, choose option one. If you know a little html, choose option two. If you want to create your own template, choose option 3.

page 3.bmp

This last help screen (click to enlarge) offers some pretty neat features. My favorite is “magic dust”. A bit of sparkle follows the curser around as it moves over your page. You may have also noticed the little clock in the bottom right corner when you biggied my design (Screen Shot, top). That came from the perks — hpage calls them “gimmicks” menu above.

Please note, if you join hpage you can build a free website, but they still have bills to pay, so they will put advertisements on your blog.  If you do not want hpage advertisements on your blog, you can up grade to a paid account.  Extra webspace is also available if you purchase premium services.  The current free webspace is 300 mb, which translates to plenty of text, but photos will eat that space up very quickly.

Go check out hpage, build your own free website and have a little fun!
