I remember my grandmother wearing “support hose” — thick, horrible, ugly stockings that made her sweat and complain. Have you taken a look at their modern day counterpart? It is all grown up and stylin’! The photo at the left shows a model wearing juzo compression pantyhose item #2582 AT Short Length Panty 30-40.
Juzo 2582 AT Short Length Panty 30-40, is described “for the fashion conscious woman who wants to keep her elegant appearance during compression therapy”. I am getting of the age where compression stockings are something I am going to have to think about. I’m looking at my ankles and seeing traces of my grandmother’s varicose veins. It is nice to know that I won’t have to sacrifice style and comfort in the process.

Oh my, I don’t think I could bear to wear hose in Hawaii. I’m hot enough already. I sure hope I don’t get varicose veins. My husband’s mom really had a problem with them. I believe it caused her a deal of pain also.
Kay — for that very reason I’m thinking moving to Washington might be a good thing. On the other hand, my arthritis will bother me more there ….
I have varicose veins in my thighs, but not my legs. No pain whatsoever, though. People can’t see them because I wear long muumuus and never go to the beach.
Gigi — mine are small and near my ankles. There’s no pain yet, but I keep remembering Gram.
My grandmother wore support hose for varicose veins.
Thanks for the Harlequin link. I hope one of us wins.

Nessa — I hesitated to enter your email address, then chose the won I hoped was most capable of filtering junk mail, just in case. I hope we both win. You can have 1st prize, I’ll take second.
My grandmother used to wear Lyle stockings, made from thick knitted cotton, I think they hid varicose veins.
Akelamalu — not just hid them, but compressed her legs just a bit to aid in circulation.
I used to wear control hose when I worked in the library — had to! I was only in my twenties and early thirties, but sometimes we’d be standing in place for two hours or more, and without support our feet and ankles would swell and ache. I wish they’d had some better choices then.
