I used to wear control hose when I worked in the library — had to! I was only in my twenties and early thirties, but sometimes we’d be standing in place for two hours or more, and without support our feet and ankles would swell and ache. I wish they’d had some better choices then.

My grandmother used to wear Lyle stockings, made from thick knitted cotton, I think they hid varicose veins.

My grandmother wore support hose for varicose veins.

I have varicose veins in my thighs, but not my legs. No pain whatsoever, though. People can’t see them because I wear long muumuus and never go to the beach.

Oh my, I don’t think I could bear to wear hose in Hawaii. I’m hot enough already. I sure hope I don’t get varicose veins. My husband’s mom really had a problem with them. I believe it caused her a deal of pain also.
