Melli -- yes, and then they don't actually get a gift because the cash is apt to go on a necessity.

Karen -- I'm about to climb up on my soapbox and start ranting, but instead I will say this is why Amoeba and I have a very moderate cap on Christmas. It's not supposed to be about extravagant presents.

I have bought ski packages for kids who like to ski before! The older they get the more CASH seems to be what they want though. I don't LIKE to give cash! There's no ... creativity in cash. But with my kids I do give some - on top of the gifts they get.

This year, 3 out of my 4 kids either can't tell us what they want for Christmas OR they want something that costs more than what a regular Joe can afford. Yes, those particular kids are teenagers. Cash & gift cards are wonderful! (There are probably gift cards for skiing outings, but for now, I'm just suggesting cash for the kid who likes to ski but can't afford it.)
