I knew that somewhere there was the *perfect* caption for that face and that phone, and Quilly you got it, that was brilliant. D’oh!
OMG, party lines — my Aunt Doris was the last one in our area to hang on to hers and not switch to a private line, and eventually she was forced to because there was nobody left to ‘party’ with. But my mother had a few stories about the neighbourhood gossips who you *knew* were listening.
Susan — we had a party line and I always hated it. Most of the conversation was spent telling other people the line was busy!
Ooooooo…. party lines… so glad they don’t exist anymore! LOL!

As a kid I remember a neighbor telling me to “quit talking to your little friend at school who you can tell everything to tomorrow, I have an emergency.”
Yeah, 5 minutes later when I grabbed the phone again, she was STILL gossiping.
