My Dream Bathroom

March 2, 2010

This may sound ungrateful, but I would already dearly love to remodel the bathroom in our new home.  It has the huge walk-in, all-tile shower with the 6 inch waterfall shower head, which I love.  It has the lovely alcove with the built-in spa bathtub, which I love.  And it has a dinky, one sink vanity which totally underwhelms me.

When it comes to bathroom vanities, I want two bowls and lots of storage space.  I would like Amoeba and I to each have our own mirrors and medicine cabinets.  It would thrill me if we could be together, separate and equal.  I also want dual power outlets so I don’t have to fight Amoeba’s toothbrush, beard trimmer, and electric razor for a socket to plug in my electric toothbrush.

To indulge my dream I did a search for bathroom vanities online. I was looking for something with lots of storage space, dual sinks and medicine cabinets, in a light wood to match the baseboards and wainscoting, and looked modern enough to compliment our current bathroom.  The cabinet pictured here suits the bill admirably.

I love the high profile sinks.  I noticed that it is a fairly consistent theme for Ronbow vanities. Since I seriously doubt I can convince Amoeba to replace the cabinet in our leased home, I’m bookmarking this site for when we get rich and build our own dream place. I have to confess my dream place would look a lot like what we have now, but I’m pretty sure it would have Ronbow vanities in both the bathrooms.

I don’t blame you, we have twin sinks & mirrors (or a big one for two) since our house flooded in 1979. I did a lot of the work.

If Amoeba is willing and you demand, you can come to our Mexican Market in San Antonio, buy a ceramic rainbow bowl (for him), stick some PVC on the bottom and drain into a “Y” pipe that you make in your drain pipe. Sit it on most anything that will hold a few gallons of water.

You can do this yourself if Amoeba isn’t handy. If you pay my and Mrs. Jim’s airfare we will come up so I can direct you in doing this easy little job. Mrs. Jim always backseat drives my projects, hence she is a part of the deal. Okay? :)

Jim — nice try. We have a gorgeous house. I am certain, since I have been sharing for 50 years, it won’t kill me to continue doing so. Besides, installing an extra bowl on top of the one already there won’t help me with more counter space of outlets, will it?

That is an ideal vanity set up! I’d love to have two sinks, mirrors, and more outlets and storage, too.

I’d love a bigger bathroom with a walk-in shower but unless I win the lottery it’s not going to happen :(

Akelamalu — we have a lovely home with two walk-in showers and a lovely spa tub and it didn’t take winning the lottery. Things are becoming more and more affordable every day. Of course, if one has to design an entire new room to fit them in, that might be different.

We have twin sinks, although they’re 1970′s powder blue…one of the faucets is broken so now we have to share – two is definitely the way to go! Hopefully a bathroom remodel is in the near future so that’s why I’m not fixing the broken one….baby steps, that’s how things go around here.

Quilly, I just read where you have two showers. Our bath must be similar to yours with only one shower (and a spa tub) but two sinks. Put a sink on a stand in there for Amoeba. Take off the doors, and presto, a place for him. Be careful running electic cords in there, better get him a battery powered shaver.

And be careful if you have lights for his mirrors. Use a trouble light always on, then you plug it in at your vanity for him. In the moves we’ve all seen people getting electrocuted in the bath via an appliance :)

Oh yes, I just returned from voting. We have electronic tablet type voting machines, the size of a laptop.

Mrs. Jim called on the way to church, the red bud trees are blooming all over the place. Ours is a day or two away but the pear trees are starting.

  • Here’s to getting rich and building dream houses! I would dearly love to install a fantasy bathroom. If I ever do, then you can both come visit me anytime, and Thom can come too and have a place to shit-shower-and-shave. Classy guy, Thom!

Susan — this house is pretty close to my dream house — with that one little bathroom vanity change. I guess I shouldn’t gripe — look at the kitchen!
