I went hiking in Deception Pass this weekend. Both my camera and I got a bit of exercise. It was wonderful. Among the many things I captured where these two Salmon Berry pics I thought would make wonderful macro shots — which they did.

For Geometry Monday I take you back to my archives. I recently visited Orcas Island, part of the San Juan Islands in Puget Sound. I stayed at Camp Orkila and took this shot of the outside drinking fountains. I bring you a linear array.

Wow…all three of these shots are awesome. I love those Salmon Berries. I’ve never seen those before. Now before I get a pffft I say it pffft. Are they edible or do they just bloom and become a flower?
Thom — I don’t think your question is silly. To my knowledge, Salmon Berries only grow in the Western US. They are much like Raspberries and black berries in the way they grow. They start out with a flower and as the flower petals dry up, the fruit grows as you see here.
The berries are edible and make good jams and preserves, but when just picked and eaten have a much more subtle and delicate flavor than most fruits and many people consider them “tasteless”.

Salmon Berries grow in Western Canada too, my sister and I used to pick tons of them and eat them off the bush while camping when we were growing up.
Teresa — of course you are correct! I should have simply said “the west coast” because they grow from California to Alaska, which of course includes the beautiful coast of British Columbia.

Barbara — I am rather proud of that sink shot. Especially since those are kid sized sinks and I had to squat over a mud puddle. I got a gorgeous shot without making a mess!
these salmon berries look much, but not quite, like raspberries. excellent shots in any case!

Polona — I knew you would appreciate the sink shot. I tried several different angles before I clicked the shutter, and I did this in one take. I am pretty proud of it myself.
Hmmm… I’ll have to check out geometry monday. I love the line of faucets. Lovely macros. The second one is my favorite.

Great macro shots! I really need to get me a better camera and macro lens. I am longing for one soooooo bad. Then, I too can participate in Macro Monday!!!!
