Better Late Than Never

Attention Winners!

I just got a rather snotty email from someone today.  It was a reminder to do something I hadn’t forgotten and a threat to expel me from a group if I didn’t complete my assignment immediately.  I was actually in the process of doing the assignment.  I dang near quit because the threat ticked me off — but quitting would have been more detrimental to me than it would have to her, who obviously has been given a little power and thinks she’s “all that”.  I’m thinking she could learn some manners.  I mean, what’s wrong with writing, “Hey did you forget,” rather than, “Do it or else“?

However, the snotty email did serve a purpose.  I went to my calendar to see if I really did forget anything while my family was visiting and I did indeed!  I never announced the winner of my gift card giveaway!  Barbara received four entries.  She posted about the giveaway and her friends Carrie, JHS, Beka, and Lizzie all visited me and left Barbara’s name behind.  I put the 4 commenters in the Random.org hopper and shook them up.  Random.org picked JHS, so she and Barbara will both receive $10.00 gift cards from FriendGiftr.

I also forgot to send Beth and Amanda their copies of the Nancy Rue novel.  Beth, I need you to email your address!

UPDATE: I received an explanation for the snotty email.  It was passion for the subject at hand and not vindictiveness that caused the poor choice of words in the missive.  That is easy to forgive.

  • I assume I am the Beth of whom you speak. The e-mail will be on it’s way post-haste!

  • Congratulations winners!

Oh I hate snotty emails — it’s just as easy to write and say ‘hey, just wondering if you need a little more time/help/etc with that?’ I think a lot of people write correspondence while never considering what it’ll be like from the receiving end.

yikes, I’m glad I’ve never had someone speak to me like that. And congrats to the winners!!!

It is frustrating when people don’t know how to communicate with any kind of grace.

Thank you for the gift card! Will it be electronic or plastic? You have my e-mail if electronic — if you need me to resend my snail mail address, let me know. BTW, I just started the Aedyn Chronicles!

Well, how lovely! Just got a comment at my site telling me about this.

As for your e-mailer, just remember that people who feel powerless are often the ones who are the most officious. It’s a way to elevate themselves by putting others in what they perceive to be the appropriate place. Just pity your emailer and others like her. It will keep your blood pressure in the normal range!

If that doesn’t work, just tell ‘em you know a lawyer! :-)

    Thanks again!

That’s such a shame. Some people just haven’t been taught good manners or don’t care.

    • Quilly says:

Kay — I am being petty by assuming this was a power thing. It may simply have been negligence, as in she had no idea how accusing and rude her comment would read.

  • Teresa Dawn says:

Just letting you know that Tina filled out that blog interview for me. Her one has now been posted and she listed you for the “favourite blog” question.

I have always found that business like this needs to remain between you and the other person. I realize our blogs our a domain that belongs to us to say what we want, but I was actually more offended by the sharing and the comments that followed than that you received an unkind email.

Save the personal bickering for behind the scenes whenever possible. We’re either Christian, or we’re not. This kind of stuff just leaves a bad taste in everyone’s mouth.

I’m sure a private email would have done more to resolve things.

Snotty is never a good first choice… *sigh*
    Congrats to the winners!
