As you know, I have been looking into vacation places where I could take Amoeba and he wouldn’t work. Truth to tell, as long as the vacation includes him being conscious, it will probably never happen. Even yesterday at the volcano there were work related phone calls. Since he is a consultant and a trouble-shooter on a bio-fuels project, they expect him to shoot the trouble when it comes up.
Jim suggested I check out several mid-west vacation spots where there is no ocean, and no ocean does seem a likely way to keep an oceanographer from working — unless he still has his computer and his phone. Aside from that, I’ve already been to most of those places. I’ve been looking into resorts in Myrtle Beach because I have never been to Myrtle Beach. Plus, Melli is nearby, as is Tilden — and the rest of Amoeba’s family.
I think I have finally narrowed things down to the Myrtle Beach hotel I want to stay in. The Avista Resort (you can see it at http://avistaresort.com) looks wonderful! Great views, great rooms, great amenities. Now all I need is a peek at Amoeba’s calendar so I know when to book the trip, and our credit card. Unfortunately when I mentioned that to Amoeba he said I needed to hold off on that because we’ll likely be coming back here in January for another bio-fuels meeting. Somehow, Hawaii in January doesn’t sound like a hardship.

Keep on trying. One of these days/years you´ll get him to take a real vacation.
I imagine that Amoeba would like to do a little working vacation with us this coming week. Guess where we are going!
Myrtle Beach is great if you like crowds and lots of “touristy” stuff.
A few miles down is Springmaid Beach; more families and conventions [think mild mannered ones]. It’s actually owned by the Springmaid Corp. in Rockhill, SC and their employees or anyone who lives in Lancaster County, SC get discounts! I’ve take my senior citizens there a couple of times; they had good package deals which include shows from Dixie Stampeded to Broadway on the Beach.
When I was a kid we always stayed at Surfside or Garden City, which are close by. The big trip was to see the “Gay Dolphin” in Myrtle Beach.
Whichever one you choose, please pick it after August so you don’t cook…or run into jelly fish.
I would DEFINITELY save my money for the next Hawaii trip! Biofuels sounds like a nifty subject too.
