I am still decorating our home. So far the only room I consider “finished” is the guest bathroom — although I am still debating on changing the rug in there. The guest bedroom is almost complete, but it needs a few finishing touches. That’s why I started looking at lamps.
I had no idea when I sat down at my computer and started searching, that I would discover an entire world of lighting I never knew existed outside posh home decor magazines. Having seen some of these wonderful lamps and fixtures, I am not certain I will ever again be able to go to the hardware store and buy a lamp.
I really like this Foscarini suspension lamp. I think it would look great in Amoeba’s music room. It kind of goes along with his trumpets, doesn’t it? He could have a whole musical theme going in there. Some framed chart music and a couple of photos of Amoeba playing solo would complete the look.
I also found a couple of swing arm Holtkoettetter wall sconces I would love to have over the bed in our room. We have lamps on our end tables, but they take up so much room that there’s no where to stack our book, cell phones, bluetooths, alarm clocks and my CPAP.
You’ll note that none of the above addresses the fact that my goal is to finish the guest room. I thought that maybe this free arm floor lamp from Artemide would be the best choice. With the adjustable light levels and adjustable swing arm, it seems like the perfect “one size fits all” lighting solution. It would also sit on the floor beside the bed and not take up room on the nightstand. On the other hand, it isn’t really all that easy to just reach out and turn it on and off, so it really isn’t an improvement over the ceiling light.
My indecisiveness is the reason why, if you come to visit, you will likely end up in a guest room devoid of table lamps or other finishing touches. It only took me 8 months to decide what kind of bedding I wanted in there. On the other hand, the room has already had visitors and they didn’t do any complaining. It has a top of the line bed which seemed to suit them just fine.

I have a hard time picking out lamps too. I usually end up just going with function.
Nessa — at these price tags, I expect great beauty!
STILL decorating? I never stop decorating! Decorating is a never ending on going process! It is a WAY OF LIFE!!! Aside from the Holy Trinity, it is the air that I breathe! LOL! And I love lamps…
Melli — maybe you should come hang here and check out my house ….
If I understood well, my room is ready the only thing I have to bring is a lamp ??
Gattina — yep, and an alarm clock.
When we moved up here in September 2007, we came empty-handed, only brought personal items with us. We lucked out in renting a fully-furnished house on Mt. Dallas and didn’t need to buy a thing. Now we bought a home, and I’ve had to start from scratch. I don’t know about you, Quilly, but I’ve had more fun!! I thoroughly enjoyed going into Tracy’s and saying, “I want that, and that, and that!” Most everything else was purchased online. I haven’t tackled lamps yet! But, I did discover Bed, Bath and Beyond. I had my same old, same old shopping websites, but BB&B was a new one. I hit the jackpot with them and found all kinds of things I needed. After three months, I’m just about finished, and we’re ready to move. Our renovation is finished, at least for now. Furniture gets delivered this Friday. I’m actually going to miss online shopping for awhile! Hoping you’re finding those perfect pieces to make your home your own! Joy
Joy — I did love the trip to Tracy’s. We have some great new couches. With me not working we do have a few small money issues, so our decorating is going slow.
