They were discussing the falafels and cucumber sauce they’d enjoyed at the potluck. He said, “Hey, did you ever wonder how peta bread got its name?”
She said, “There’s a story about how pita bread got its name?” She sat up expectantly to listen.
He adopted an official announcer-type tone and said, “No animals were harmed in the making of this meal.”
Three seconds of stunned silence passed.
She gave him that look and advanced on him slowly. In her own official announcer-type tone she added, “However, one Amoeba was killed in the telling of this joke,” and then she lunged ….

Are you going to try to watch the eclipse tonight? For some reason it sounds a LOT more reasonable in your time zone than mine!
Mom, the timing of the eclipse may be more reasonable (totality begins shortly after midnight PST), but the weather isn’t. We’d probably have to be on a jetliner to see it.
This brought a big smile to my face today. 😀
However, I am now really wanting to know how pita bread got its name…
Karen, the Holy Wikipedia, citing Oxford dictionaries, says that it’s a medieval Greek word meaning ‘pie’ or ‘cake’, and that the word has been adopted into English to name the ‘ordinary bread’ of eastern Mediterranean peoples.
LOL.

What, Barbara? PETA bread wasn’t enough? Quilly (bless her heart) spent most of Sunday preparing for, hosting, and cleaning up our open-house party. Because of all this, not to mention the way we configured the house for the party, she couldn’t even get to her computer until late in the day. After all that, she decided on Punting Monday, and I don’t blame her a bit.

LOL! Barbara, Since I know Amoeba this sounded okay to me, but I suppose not having any clue to his tone of voice this might have seemed gruff. Think droll rather than sarcastic — although he is very protective of me, he seldom bites a friend.

I’m told, Jim, that this is the first lunar eclipse at the winter solstice in quite some time. But I’m not sure that the loonies need the help. PETA, in my view, is prime evidence for the wisdom of that old adage counseling moderation in all things. Including blog posts.

Home-style Gyros with Cucumber-Yogurt Sauce:
juice of 1/2 orange
1/4 c. lite soy sauce
1 tbsp. raspberry vinegar
1 tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil
1 tbsp. chopped fresh mint
1/4 tsp. fresh ground black pepper
1/2 lb. lean loin lamb, pounded and thinly sliced
4 pita pockets, cut in half
Sauce:
1/2 c. minced cucumber, seeded
1/2 c. plain low-fat yogurt
2 tbsp. chopped fresh mint
2 tbsp. chopped fresh cilantro
2 tbsp. chopped green onion
1 tbsp. fresh lime juice
