Passion
For those who came here for details on my day at the beach: It was fun. 🙂

Honestly, I took pictures, but I took them with a special waterproof camera and you have to wait until they are developed to see them — and since I’ve not even taken them to be processed yet (we didn’t get home until midnight) — I have no idea how long we will ALL have to wait to see how they came out.
We also did some touristy things yesterday, including wandering into Waikiki to eat. That wasn’t my choice, it was my partners. I have “been there, done that” and have no wish to go back again. I have the feeling he feels the same now since the restaurant we ventured in there for is no longer in business. Sigh. They served the best salads in the world.

What is your passion? What is it that moves your soul? What sets your heart, mind, and imagination on fire? What is it you wish for? What goal has your dream self obtained that you have not yet achieved?
I have been doing a lot of thinking lately. While living one of the best years of my life I have just finished the worst year of my career. On top of that, someone challenged me to a meme that asked where I wanted to be in ten years. I considered it as a philosophical question, even though I answered it as a physical one. Ten years ago, after publishing a handful of short stories, one of which you can find here (Power Play), I set my goal to write a novel — and have done nothing to andvance that dream.
This summer I am dedicating 4 hours per day, 5 days per week, to writing — and I don’t mean blog posts. I am giving myself a part time job. Every so often someone might want to chime in and ask me for a word count. I am going to try to keep myself writing. No revising until I have finished the first draft. Usually I get bogged down in the minuet of choosing the exact right word to convey one fleeting scene, and lose sight of the bigger story. For once I will try writing with no revision until the story is out of my head and down on paper.
Wish me luck.

Whoooooo hoooooo! Quilly’s gonna be an AUTHOR – and I’m gonna say “I knew here WHEN!” Yay! So… what’s your word count NOW?
Wishing you well in writing the novel. I believe you will do it, for you have a plan.
Keep writing till you reach the end, you can do the corrections and revisions later. All the best!
My daughters are 11 and 7. Thank you very much for the compliment. Have a great weekend.:)
That’s very nice ! Take time for what you want really to do ! I didn’t do it for years and now I try to catch up !
I always say the key to Oahu is to get OUT of Waikiki! But I guess wandering in from time to time to impress the out of towners is sometimes called for. I can’t wait for the underwater pictures. But this is a wonderful one in the mean time.
I’m glad to hear you’re following your passion to write. I’m doing some searching myself lately and think I’ll blog it more in detail later. Let’s just say, the way you feel about writing is how I’m feeling about photography. You sound like you have a great plan for the summer. I hope this goes well for you. Enjoy the process rather than just seeking the finish line.
Follow your dream Quilly!!!
You’re gonna be a writer as well as a photographer, you’re so talented!
Melli — well, my outline has 2792; and my story so far has only 939, but I declare that as not bad for the first day’s work.
Betty — having a plan has never been my problem. FOLLOWING it, is!
Indraini — come tell me that every day.
Gattina — as a teacher the time is given to me. I may as well use it well.
Robert — I hope your dream comes true.
Jientje — I hope I write much better then I take pictures, but thank you.
Good Luck Quilly, you deserve it! Your photos are really lovely too!
Quill.
My dear Quill.
I did it and Rose did it.
You will write that novel.
(((((hugs))))
Good for you on your writing! I should give that a try. 🙂
ugh getting film pictures developed….I still have film rolls on my counter from last September.
As for writing, I completely understand the idea of getting stuck on just the right word usage. I can’t flow in thought until I am comfortable with what I have done so far.
But I pray for you to be blessed with flowing thoughts and freedom to live in your aspirations. It is so good that you are giving yourself the room to explore your goals. Not veryone gives themselves the freedom to do so.
I will cheer you on!
Beautiful picture!
And i just LOVE that song! :)))
Wow. The photo is nice and the video is great.
Of all the visits I have ever made for Sky Watch this one as moved me the most…. Both me and Jane have heard this version of Somewhere Over The Rainbow… and we both like it the best…. we did not know anything about the singer only his voice moved us. I was quite emotional watching the video…. I know I will be watching it many more times… Thank you for including this tribute to a great man..
Tom
