Say Cheese … Burger

Amoeba Burger I used to think that look in his eyes was for me, but after our two mile stroll down Kapiolani Blvd (from Kalakua to Ala Moana) in the heat, Amoeba greeted his burger and coke with a light of love in his eyes.   That’s a Blue Cheese Bacon Burger from Cheese Burger in Paradise.  It was yummy.

Here’s a close up of mine. That luscious onion ring atop the burger was not part of the presentation. We ordered a basket of the crunchy, golden beauties on the side. They were yummy, too.

There are a few things about Hawaii that we are going to miss.

  1. Mmmmmm. Looks good. Luurrrve onion rings too.
It’s is so crushing to discover that they DON’T only have eyes for you isn’t it? To think we have to compete with cheeseburgers….

Then again, my other half has to compete with the cats for *my* affections! lol

  2. What I wouldn’t give for a *real* cheeseburger like that one! They look scrumptious.

We don’t have good ones here anywhere. The best I ever had were in Switzerland; there was a whole menu of half-pounder cheeseburgers in our favourite restaurant, and the cheese was thick, and real. You could get a fried egg on top, or slice of pineapple, anything. They were amazing.

    1. Susan — we have found a couple of great burger places here. We will miss the food in Hawaii — but that might be a good thing. 😉

        1. Then folks will just have to eat all those houses they put on the farmland in Ewa.

I Hopefully Friday Harbor won’t have the same problem.

  3. Well, you DON’T have to miss Cheeseburger In Paradise! We’ve even got one here!!! Of course… I don’t know that you’ll have one in Friday’s Harbor…. But yea… their burgers are fabulous — and so are their DRINKS! They are served so cute!

    1. Melli — Friday Harbor has a few good restaurants. None of them are chain restaurants and there are NO fast food drive thrus.

      1. Your Cheeseburger in Paradise is a DRIVE through? Ours is a regular restaurant. I think you’ll survive just fine in Friday Harbor without drive-throughs! I wish drive throughs would disappear off the planet! (mainly because I use them too often!) TOO convenient!

    1. Barbara — that particular day (it was horribly hot) I am certain I greeted my glass of water and soda pop with the same look of longing and devotion.

    1. Betty — we are moving to San Juan Island in Washington State. If you go to my search box in the left-hand sidebar and type in Friday Harbor, you can read all about it. We spent a good part of the summer there.

  4. That looks nothing like the McDo stuff they sell here, except how it’s packed. I thought that ring was a fried calamari ring.
The look in his eyes is priceless. Are you sure it was for that hamburger?

        1. Jientje — and you seem to be the only one. Everybody else just assumed I was right and it was the food. That’s okay because I knew I was wrong.

  5. The burgers are scrumptious looking. it is sad for a city the size of this that I call home, there are not too many places that are locally owned {Ma and Pa Type}. Most are of the Major Chain type. I miss that the most no locally family run places.

    1. Thom — there is a burger place in Friday Harbor. I ate there once 4 years ago and ordered chicken, so I don’t know how the burgers are. Believe it or not, I will miss Spam Musibi!

        1. Thom — yes, I’m sure they do, but it’s not the same. I am going to miss the Shack for sure. Today for lunch I had the chicken wings and Amoeba had the Thunder Humper. Good eats.

    1. David — still sitting here waiting.and it’s been about 2.5 hours. You tell time about as well as Amoeba. 😉 You have until mid-December if you want to have a burger with is in Hawaii. After that, you’ll have to look for us on San Juan Island in Washington State.

  6. Hey Quilly, thank you for posting the picture of Amoeba. I had no idea of what kind of looking guy you would be hitching p with. He is alright. Of course you needed my approval. 🙂

I only stayed in Hawaii for three weeks several years ago and I still miss those field ripened pineapples. They are unbelievably sweet. And juicy!

Have you finished reading your ‘romance’ books yet?

    1. Jim — there are photos of Amoeba all over my blog — and one of him on his blog AND even videos of Amoeba playing trumpet. We love the pineapple, too. Luckily, there is plenty of fresh produce to love in Washington State, so there’ll be a bit of a trade off.

As to the romance novels — I skimmed through. They are really too trashy to read.

  7. Well, at least he loves you as much as his cheesburger! LOL
There is that Veggie Tales song about a cheeseburger… should I be worried that my husband can sing it word-for-word? 😉

    1. Lew the onion rings are fresh, not frozen and real onion, not the reconstituted stuff. The batter was crisp and the onion still had some form. They were perfect.
