Candle Light
I was at a Christmas Party with relative strangers — as in they were all relatives and I was the token next-door-neighbor. During the group photo time (until I was called upon to take the full group picture), I amused myself with this Hurricane Lamp candle. I like the way the covered glass softened the shot and reflected the candle flame.

Candles are so mesmerizing.
Sometimes a blessed relief, when in a room full of people!
(And you got a nice erect flame there!!)
Violet Sky — the hurricane glass protected the flame.
How soothing.
(I hate being at parties where I’m the only one who doesn’t know everyone. Ick.)
Robin — I knew a few of them and they were all really nice and warm and welcoming.
Very nice Quilly!! I like it!!
Thanks, Alice.
very nice!
you know what’s strange? i was playing with candles and their reflections this evening and almost posted one but then changed my mind just so and went for an artsy (meaning grainy and blurry and overcontrasty – and i don’t care if this is not a valid word) approach to self-portrait š
oh, by the way, perhaps you should check the dates on the giveaway update
Juliana — playing with fire is a no-no, and self-portraits should always break the rules.
this is a lovely photo, perfect for the time of year!
CGP — I thought it was seasonally perfect as well.
Hi Quilly. I like your photo. It’s hypnotic. I can feel the heat of the flame.
John — oh-oh! Back up before you singe your beard!
Oooh lovely. I love candles and the light they cast.
Susan — so do I.
Very clever, Quilly! I would probably removed the glass lamp without thinking… Nice job! Happy Holidays to you and yours! š
Mary — not if you’d seen the reflection of the flame and hoped to capture it, you wouldn’t have!
Beautiful!
Linda — thanks!
Very nice! I like the soft glow.
Barbara — I was rather pleased with that glow myself. I’m glad you liked it.
Very nice and clever Q. I love that photo š Well done š
Thom — thanks. The strangest things make great photos!
That is one great reflection picture. It is so creative.
Dr. John — is that your polite way of pointing out that the reflection is almost imaginary?
Very nice photo. It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas.
Doug — take your finger out of the candle. sheesh!
How cool that they invited you over.
And what a sweet reflection shot.
Perfect Christmas mood!
Nicole — yeah, we like our neighbors. Good thing, too, since they own the house we live in!
Candles can be challenging, but this picture is perfect Quilly!
That is excellent! I tried taking a similar photo but the results were not as good.
