Elwha Reflections
Weekend Reflections
James, over at Newton Area Photo
hosts a fun meme called Weekend Reflections.
Grab a camera and play along.
And even if you don’t join us,
be sure to check out James’ dazzling photos.
This is the Elwha, a Super class ferry that moves people, vehicles and products between Anacortes and the San Juan Islands on Puget Sound in Washington State. The Elwha has been serving the people of Washington State since 1968. I took this picture from the balcony of a staff housing unit on the Friday Harbor Labs grounds as the ferry eased past Cantilever Point on its return trip to Anacortes.

Makes me want to come visit even more!! love you !!!! C
Well, if you’re up for sleeping on a bunk bed, you’re welcome.
Beautiful!
BTW, have you had to buy a whole new wardrobe to deal with the cold over there?
And, I just want to congratulate you on your success as a teacher of that 5th grade class. I would have had a hard time with that group. Heck, I even have a hard time with my own kids, although it is better now that they are adults.

Gigi, I bought a coat and boots. I had a hat and jeans from my previous visits state side. I did invest in a couple of snuggly long-sleeved shirts. Amoeba actually needed more clothes than I.
spectacular sight. i envy you your view 🙂

Polona — the one from out house isn’t quite as spectacular, but the view from this apartment is dazzling.
How lovely! Looks like it might be fun at least once just for the ride.

Babara — I love riding the ferries. They travel past some breath-taking scenery.
Reminds me of the ferry´s that go between Vancouver and Victoria. Great picture.
Betty — it should. This ferry has actually traveled between Anacortes and Vancouver. That route is part of the Washington State Ferry system’s regular summer schedule, and a couple of the Canadian ferries come this way as well.
There is such a wonderful quality about night time reflections on the water. This is excellent!

James — to me it is a form of magic. The ferries go past my window several times each evening and I always stop to look.
That is gorgeous!

Linda — it is, isn’t it? Night here can be just as amazing as day.
Ferries are a great way to travel. And the views are always entertaining.
Did you live here before moving to Hawaii?
.-= VioletSky´s last blog .. =-.
VioletSky — you haven’t been around for awhile so you missed the transition. We have left Hawaii and moved here. I am originally from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. My mate has a long history with Friday Harbor. He earned his doctorate degree here many moons ago.
Quilly, I haven’t been to visit you in many ages–don’t know why. I may have lost you when my computer crashed last summer. Aren’t you in Hawaii? Have I lost my mind? Do I remember that you were from Washington? Are you here now–visiting? pemanently (or relatively so)?
No, I do not live in Spokane, but in the Yakima Valley. But I have kids in Spokane, including a brand new grandson. So my world has been there a lot for the last couple of weeks.
And even though I live on the dryside, I love the ferries.

I was born and raised in Coeur d’Alene. I have lived in Spokane and Yakima. In fact I attended Eisenhower High in 1977. My love and I did live for a little over 2 years in Hawaii. We have just moved “home”. We are in the San Juan Islands — on San Jaun Island, in fact — in the middle of Puget Sound.
Oh, well, I guess I could have read the comment before mine. duh!!

That’s okay. I don’t mind answering! Now that I have moved I am hoping to participate in you Monday Macros, but I already to my own Punny Monday AND Monday Microfiction. It makes for a busy Sunday, especially with church and all.
Hi Quilly. I like this one. That is a big boat alright.

John — it is designed to hold over 200 vehicles and over 1500 walk-on passengers.
You know…. If I could have THAT view, I’d rather just live in staff housing! LOL! That is gorgeous Quilly!

Melli — this is VISITING staff housing. In March Amoeba becomes permanent staff and they kick our hinnies out!

What a beautiful shot! 40+ years and still going, wow.
We used to take the ferry to France each year and it was a lovely way to travel — none of that airport stress.
