Punny Monday 2010 #10

Welcome to Punny Monday. Every Sunday evening about midnight Pacific Daylight Savings Time I post an original photo and ask my readers to figure out what was going on in my brain (or Amoeba’s) when he/I/we made it.
punny Monday
What noun does this photo represent? EMAIL your answers and leave a comment designed to either help or confuse your fellow game players. The first contestant to EMAIL me the right answer wins a featured link in my blog which will display until next Monday when we’ll play this little game again. Enjoy.

PLEASE, do not write your guess in the comments. It spoils the game for the other players. Your guesses will be shared when the game ends. Oh, and just because someone announces they’ve won, doesn’t mean that they have. Please keep guessing until I post the answers!

  1. Wondering what your local time is, your blog watch is an hour ahead of the time showed in the comments. I am confused, that’s why I am so lost !!

    1. The clock applet’s on Pacific Daylight Time (sets itself automatically), but the blog’s timestamp is still on Pacific Standard Time. That has to be set manually, and it hasn’t been done yet. Must be the lingering Hawai`i influence – where they don’t bother with daylight time.

  2. When we first moved to Japan we lived behind a golf driving range. My brother and I used to collect the errant balls and items shown above. Our landlord got wind of it (he owned the range) and came to remonstrate with my father about these horrible children who were stealing profits from him (never mind that the items laid around for weeks!). We had hidden the items in a drain pipe that was supposed to be attached to the house and was just leaning up against it. As he waved his arms around I was so afraid he would hit the drainpipe, knock it down, and then the jig would be up. He never found them…but we stopped harvesting! Maybe that’s why I don’t like golf today?

  3. The early bird gets the worm so it is doubtful I’ve won this time. But, one of these days I’m going to get a toughie and it won’t matter that I’m late.

  4. Spring break time (and therefore no alarm clocks!) here today, so I know I am nowhere near first, but I sent in my best guess anyway.

    1. Melli — I am so proud of your pun I am pretty much speechless. Amoeba says you’re a member of the club now and you can’t make any more cracks about Linda or us.

  5. Sorry, didn’t notice the date until I saw the answer.
But, I did email my guess first.
    Even though I don’t golf………..

    1. Wray — thanks for telling me the date was wrong! I don’t think anybody else even noticed! Wow. Come back next Monday and play. You usually have to be here pretty early (Pacific Daylight Savings Time) to get your guess in.

    1. Polona — wow. I thought golf was universal, so I figured even if they had a different name in other countries, the net would make finding out what they’re called in English easy — but I guess one has to have a name of some kind before they can look things up!

      1. well, golf is played here, too, but it’s still deemed aristocratic game. and lately it’s mostly known for tiger woods’ antics. still, one doesn’t get to see the equipment all that often. and yes, looking things up is easy as long as you know what the things you’re supposed to look up are…

  6. I came on your site, and got too sleepy waiting, but then I was still up and trotted downstairs to take a peak. CONGRATS TO ALASTAIR.
Your contests are so much fun, Quilly. Thank you for thinking them up and to your husband for helping you.

    1. Melli — no. He hasn’t posted in a while. He still usually stops by on Mondays and peeks in. I think it’s the email.

  7. This is one of the few I got right. Fun! I like your pics of Pike’s Market and all the flowers. One of these days, I’ll pay Seattle a visit…

  8. I didn’t get here in time to play but guessed it before the whole pic downloaded.
No wonder Amoeba got it while you were putting it together.
    I got a chuckle out of Gattina’s comment. 🙂

  9. I was just gonna say…I’m enjoying some of this right now. And didn’t the Patriots throw some of this in Boston Harbor way back when?
