Random Dozen — April’s 1st
Looking for a meme with thoughtful questions? On Tuesdays click on the link below and pick up the questions. On Wednesdays, post your answers.
1. Define a great relationship.
Mutual trust, support, respect, and love. The sharing of laughter, hope, joys, disappointments and failures. Amoeba is always on my side, even when he’s not siding with me. He tells me what I need to hear, not necessarily what I want to hear. He is my greatest fan –and my greatest critic, but his criticism is always constructive and given to help, not destroy or discourage. I would hope he would say these things of me as well.
2. Why is it called a “drive-through” if you have to stop? (Real question: What was the last food/drink you purchased at a drive-through?)
I don’t recall the last time I purchased food from a drive-thru. There aren’t any in Friday Harbor which means my last drive-thru visit was in Hawaii, which means it was prior to January.
3. As I type this, the Butler Bulldogs are getting ready to play in the NCAA championship game. Every Hoosier is hysterical about this except me. So in honor of the Bulldogs … what is your favorite breed of dog? (I tried.)
I tend towards lovable, shaggy mutts.
4. If you had to move to a state besides the one you currently live in, where would you move?
No. No. No. No. No. I just moved. My boxes aren’t completely unpacked. I am finally home and I am staying! (Please don’t let those be “famous last words”.)
5. If you could change anything about the way you were raised, what would it be?
I would have liked to have known my mother. But had I known my mother, would I have been less close to my grandmother? You know, I like my life where it is now so I am not certain — even as much as I regret having no memories of my mother — that I want to change things. God arranged my life the way it is for a reason.
6. Who’s the funniest person you know?
Amoeba. Better still, Amoeba and I together. (Not very modest, I know.)
7. Did you get enough sleep last night?
I rarely think I’ve gotten enough sleep, but then I have a sleep disorder. Amoeba had to wake me, but I am functioning and alert. I must have gotten enough sleep.
8. What’s the first thing you thought about this morning?
Feels good (back rub) and (simultaneously) I have to go to the bathroom.
9. Grilled or Fried? –HONESTLY
It depends on what it is. Steak, grilled. French fries, fried. Hello?
10. Are you afraid of the dark?
Not the dark per se, but I have a difficult time seeing in the dark, and I fear hurting myself.
11.When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Alive. If you are familiar with my childhood you will understand.
12. If you had one word to describe yourself , what would you choose?
Unconventional.

Smiling at 11, and 12 is perfect! Love 1 as well.
Barbara — thanks. I think my answer to #11 proves my answer to #12. Melli’s answer to #1 was best, though!
Perfect answer for Nr. 9! 🙂 Your relationship with Amoeba sounds perfect.
Can I ask a question. What kind of name is Amoeba? Is he from a different ethnicity or does he just have an unusual name? 🙂 Sorry for being nosy, I´ve just never heard of this name before.
Betty — Amoeba is a nick name. My love is all American. His ancestors arrived in the New World on the Mayflower.
Hey Quilly I love your answers. Lol ‘He tells me what I need to hear, not necessarily what I want to hear.’ – that is so true in most of the relationships. You know I had may side turns in life, but on the end it all worked, I believe to things happen for a reason. Thanks for sharing your meme again, Anna 🙂
Anna — you know you are loved when bare truths can be shared without sugar coating, and the relationship is strengthened rather than strained by the revelations.
I love your answers, as usual. You are SO lucky in #1 – you both are. #11 is wise and so true.
Happy Wednesday!
Susan — neither of us take #1 for granted, which is the biggest part of what makes us so lucky. Had I not been prone to falling out of windows and riding my bike off cliffs, I might have had a different answer for #11.
i think you have described a great relationship perfectly.
#11 – i understand, and #12 – i agree 🙂
Polona — as to #11, you’ve read the stories!
I always love your answers! #1 was great. #4 cracked me up – never say “never”! 🙂
#6 – why didn’t I think of that?! You guys do indeed crack me up!
#9 – loved your no-brainer clairification!
#11 – I’ve heard enough that I get this, and it makes me sad for the you that was. Even though I know God has brought beauty in you life from the ashes you experienced.
#12 – ya think?! LOL
Linda — my childhood wasn’t all horrid — in fact, most of it was good. I feared not growing up because I was accident prone! The year I was 6 I catapulted out of a tree, fell out my bedroom window and rode my bike off a cliff. You can see how such things might lead me to wonder if I would live to be a grown up.
Come on, Quilly! Don’t you want to move a few more times?
Mama Zen — NO!
Good answer for #1 and you are most definitely unconventional. It’s what makes you so great. Well, as for moving, if you have to go can you at least stay there until after august of next year so I can at least get in a visit?
OJM — yes, I think staying here at least through August can be arranged – -since we have a lease through January.
I applaud your #3 and laugh in agreement at your #8. 🙂
Actually, I prefer roasted potatoes to french fries.
Karen — you can’t repeat this, it is a horrid scandal since I was born and raised in Idaho, but I am not a great potato fan. Shocking, isn’t it?
I would not have THOUGHT of unconventional for you – but I LIKE it! I probably would have given you hysterical (the funny way – not the crazy lady way) — and in #6 you agree with me! Someone’s blog that I was at today, for #12 they said blessed … and HAD I BEEN THINKING, that is the word I would choose! (for me)
Okay… occasionally I do like french fries – and yea, I like them fried… but again — I don’t eat them very often. I prefer them in a real restaurant with sour creme on the side rather than the fast food kind.
And… um… yea… I could probably be convinced to plop down in Friday’s Harbor! I’m not sure for how long! You haven’t really shown me WINTER there yet! But I could do Friday’s Harbor from May – October, and Texas from November – April! THAT would work well for me!
Lol, I didn’t read your answer until I posted mine, and I did put blessed. It’s what I always choose for that question (I answer a lot of these and that one comes up often lol) It’s a good word 🙂
Melli — winter in Friday Harbor is generally very mild, but rainy. There was almost no snow this year. Last year I understand they had a few inches that stuck around for a week. That hail I photographed was the most substantial inclement weather we’ve had since our arrival in January.
Just for fun I’ll answer this too 🙂
1. Define a great relationship.
Trust, Love and Open conversation. I’m not in a romantic relationship myself, but I have wonderful relationships with my parents, siblings and coworkers and I can tell them anything.
2. Why is it called a “drive-through†if you have to stop? (Real question: What was the last food/drink you purchased at a drive-through?)
Because you still drive through it… it’s not like you walk or run or whatever. Last time I went through the drive-through was with my sister about five months ago when she wanted something from Tim Hortons. I ordered a steamed milk with a shot of peppermint in it.
3. As I type this, the Butler Bulldogs are getting ready to play in the NCAA championship game. Every Hoosier is hysterical about this except me. So in honor of the Bulldogs … what is your favorite breed of dog? (I tried.)
Well, for behaviour I love Mutts, My Pepper was the most loyal dog ever… and for looks I love Irish Wolfhounds and Huskies, but that being said, I’m absolutely in love with my beautiful diva dog who is a tri-colour border collie named Amie Shania. This is her here: http://i43.tinypic.com/2s0z7va.jpg
4. If you had to move to a state besides the one you currently live in, where would you move?
I’ve never ever lived in a state lol. If I had to move to another province I would say Alberta, smack dab in the middle of the Rocky Mountains. I love it there. If I were to move to another country it’d be Ireland or Russia.
5. If you could change anything about the way you were raised, what would it be?
I would have been on a strict figure skating schedule from the time I was 2 haha! Honestly, I’m very close to my family, and I think I had a great childhood.
6. Who’s the funniest person you know?
Judy or Paul
7. Did you get enough sleep last night?
Not quite, but a decent amount.
8. What’s the first thing you thought about this morning?
“So glad I don’t have to do anything today, oh, wait, I gotta be at work in an hour.”
9. Grilled or Fried? –HONESTLY
Grilled I guess, but like Quilly, grilled french fries would be weird… I don’t really eat french fries, but I love Poutine… so strange.
10. Are you afraid of the dark?
Not at all.
11.When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?From the time I was in elementary school I said: an ice dance choreographer (/ Olympic ice dance champion), a famous novelist and a missionary. Well, I may not be that, but I’m working on the novel, I blog about God and I work in an ice rink…
12. If you had one word to describe yourself , what would you choose?
Blessed. I have a lot to be thankful for.
Teresa — The puppy dog is cute. I don’t mind that you posted this here, but if you’d put it up on your blog and linked to Linda, you would have been visited by a truckload of Christian women. I didn’t sign in because I knew I wouldn’t have time to return a boat load of visits.
Thanks Quilly. I’ll do that 🙂 Always looking to meet with new bloggers. I started out writing a comment to you just to compare a few, and then got a little carried away and just changed it to answer the entire thing haha!! That’s why it’s here 😉 But I’ll put a copy up on mine as well.
you do leave me alone…
but could you leave me a loan?
five hundred? a thousand?
Tilden — According to my right front pocket, you’ll have to settle for 387 … pennies.
You are so right with your answer to #1.
Thena – -thank you. It is how we live our lives.
How to keep a blogger busy all day! Click here.
No #6 might not seem very modest to you, but I think it is a perfect answer and gives no #1 even more meaning. No #4 made me chuckle. If I were you, I also would say hell no. No #5 shows the wisdom in you, and I’m glad that you have lived through your childhood.
So many good answers and I have to let you know that because you are so modest you might not know.
🙂
