Punny Monday #18 ~ The Memorial Day Edition
Welcome to Punny Monday. Every Sunday evening about midnight Pacific Daylight Savings Time I post an original photo and ask my readers to figure out what was going on in my brain (or Amoeba’s) when he/I/we made it.
What phrase does this photo represent? EMAIL your answers and leave a comment designed to either help or confuse your fellow game players. The first contestant to EMAIL me the right answer wins a featured link in my blog which will display until next Monday when we’ll play this little game again. Enjoy.
PLEASE, do not write your guess in the comments. It spoils the game for the other players. Your guesses will be shared when the game ends. Oh, and just because someone announces they’ve won, doesn’t mean that they have. Please keep guessing until I post the answers!
HINTS!
Memorial Day plays a significant role in this photo.
Our pun is a whole lot cornier than your guesses!
The Americans should have no trouble with this!

Well my guess is in. pffft!!!
Thom — I know you’re full of hot air but what was your guess?
No idea yet…
Barbara — you’re focused on the wrong thing.
OK, now I get it. 🙂 I think I’ve been too foggy to think clearly today. That’s my excuse, anyway.
Barbara — it’ll do. 😉 I knew this would be difficult.
I’ve sent my guesses,
Bill — thanks for playing. You came closest without actually winning.
Well, my brain is having a hard time coming up with a guess, but that’s an incredible picture!
Linda — thanks for the praise for my photography. Sorry that candle mesmerized you.
Right or wrong, I’ve been humming an Elton John tune since looking at the photo. 🙂
Jeff — singing EJ songs is almost always right.
I guessed!
Mama Zen — sure enough.
A whole pile of guesses came to mind as soon as I saw the photo — I think I’ll spare you that! ROFL
I love how you captured the flame like that – very nice!
Susan — you probably should have sent the pile. Just list them in a row with semi-colons between them so I don’t have to spend a week formatting when I post them.
Cool shot of the flame. I sent a silly email with stupid ideas that aren’t right. Hope you are having a great holiday weekend. Thanks for Punny Mondays.
Raven — your first guesses weren’t right, but a flare of brilliance lit up all the colors in your brain.
I needed your hint. Never would have thought of it without that.
Raven – -but your comment came in so fast after the hint I wasn’t certain you’d used it.
I am very much an American but I am not getting what blowing out a candle has to do with Memorial Day. Nice photo of the flame, though.
Barbara — oh dear. I probably should have said easier rather than easy. I hope this didn’t leave you feeling blue!
.
This was a nice one, Quilly. I only used the “old” bit because of the graying beard. Mine is almost that light and soon I will be old. No offense to the owner intended, please.

That’s okay, Jim. since OC is half your age, I thought the “old” comment was about YOU!
i knew i had no chance of getting this as soon as i saw the photo. all the fuss about the symbols is too alien for me to grasp (with no disrespect). incidentally, our flag has the same colours but i couldn’t care less about it
Polona — it isn’t the flag so much as the freedom it is supposed to stand for.
I wouldn’t have gotten it — it was EXCELLENT!
Susan — we liked it, but apparently our sentiment isn’t universal. 😉
Arrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh!! I knew there was a patriotic answer!
I am sorry I did not get to participate in this one. There is no way I would have gotten it right but I do think it was very clever of you guys.
I couldn’t come up with anything, but Thom’s answer cracked me up! 😀
