Punny Monday 10.10.11
Welcome to Punny Monday. This is a fun little guessing game meant to spark your imagination and tickle your funny bone. Every Monday I post an original photo and ask my readers to figure out what was going on in my brain (or Amoeba’s) when he/I/we made it. Posting time varies so every time zone occasionally gets a fair shot at being first to see the game.
Here’s the photo you need to base your guess on:
What compound noun does this photo represent? EMAIL your answers and leave a comment designed to either help or confuse your fellow game players. The first contestant to EMAIL me the right answer wins a featured link in my blog which will display until next Monday when we’ll play this little game again. Enjoy.
PLEASE, do not write your guess in the comments. It spoils the game for the other players. Your guesses will be shared when the game ends. Oh, and just because someone announces they’ve won, doesn’t mean that they have. Please keep guessing until I post the answers!

A compound noun? Then I’m sure to be wrong.
Mumma — you answered like a true teacher!
One idea came to mind almost two hours after looking at the photo, but I don’t know if it is the right one. Still thinking…
Barbara — it wasn’t the right one, but I know why your mind went there.
???
Mar — we’re the heathens of the world who don’t do metric, not that that matters because we all do measurment!
Criminy. I’m glad I stayed in bed!
LOL
Susan — LOL! But if you’d gotten up just a little earlier, you might have won!
Well, my answer came straight to mind, and I can’t even IMAGINE that it’s wrong… but knowing me, it probably is… you have mail, Dear!
Melli — your answer measured up!
I haven’t got a clue,
Bill — you should be familiar with this term. You drive with countermeasures in mind every day!
Now seeing the answer, I know I never would have got it.
Bill, That’s because I answered before you (never would have have got it).
I immediately thought of an answer, but I’m sure I’m too late. I enjoyed sleeping in this morning, thanks to a school holiday!
Linda — our kids here have school! How do you rate!?
If I’m right this one came to me instantly. Must be that I drank my coffee before spotting your email. Thanks for this delightful burst of imagination every Monday. I really enjoy it.
Raven — thanks. We like it too. It livens up our Sunday afternoons!
Does there have to be a space between the words?
Karen — a compound word is two words put together to form one. Generally there is no space. Either the words are written as one or, on occasion, they are hyphenated. I rely on the dictionary when in doubt.
Woot! I gladly concede to Karen in exchange for two hours’ sleep LOL
And where is Thom?!
But Susan, I had no intention of giving P.M a guess until later in the day. It just happened to be posted when I got up in the middle of the night to get a drink of water.
OK, I hope this is the last punny monday I miss out on…I think I may have to set an alarm to remind me it’s coming up. So sad when Monday night or Tuesday rolls around and I have missed it!!! Great guesses though!
Ah! I see the problem. We don’t call them counters in Australia. It’s only a counter if it’s at a department store. They are bench-tops here, hence benchmark.
sigh… figured the measure part but not the counter…
