Thursday Thunks ~ New Year’s Edition
The TT questions are brought to you by Bud, the color of ripping this meme off of a Sunday Stealing from 2007 (way back before Judd & syndication when only 3 played) and the number 36936.
1. What did you do in 2010 that you’d never done before?
Move to Friday Harbor, WA
2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
The last New Year’s Resolution I made was in 1997. I vowed to never make another New Year’s Resolution. That is the only NYR I have never broken. Let’s leave it that way.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
No.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
My Aunt Aldy (my mother’s sister) and Dr. John. Some might argue that Dr. John wasn’t close to me since I only knew him online, but I talked to him every day, several times a day, and I miss his wisdom.
5. What countries did you visit?
In the U.S. I visited Massachusetts, New Jersey, Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho and Spokane, Washington. I also visited Vancouver, B.C twice but it is much closer to where I live than any of those other places are.
6. What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010?
A shape like an hour glass rather than a hurricane lantern.
7. What dates from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
The week of June 14th — because Thom, and Susan and her family came to visit. We blogged together, ran around the island together and got some excellent pics of eagles together. It was an incredible week.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Making friends! I know that sounds odd, but we just moved to a new place and had to start completely over.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Diet.
10. What was the best thing you bought?
I saw this pretty thing at the second hand store. It was sore in need of oiling, but it was solid and unmarred. I asked how much and almost fainted when the girl said sixty bucks. I hemmed and hawed a bit and finally decided I guess I’d take it, all the while fearing they’d figure out what it was really worth.
11. Whose behavior merited celebration?
My love’s — and I celebrate him everyday. I don’t want him to ever think I take him for granted.
12. Whose behavior made you appalled and disgusted?
Most usually my own mistakes keep me too preoccupied to worry about anyone else’s.
13. What song will always remind you of 2010?
Likely any tune from “My Fair Lady” since we pretty much lived the production for months. Despite the fact that it was the Spring show, I still find myself humming the tunes.
14. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Gardening.
15. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Hurting (arthritis).
16. Did you fall in love in 2010?
I fall in love again everyday. I am blessed to share my life with a wonderful and charming man.
17. Who did you miss?
Dr. John and Thom. Thom didn’t die, I just moved from 3 blocks to 3000 miles away.
18. Who was the best new person you met?
Whoa! Did you know I just moved here this year? I’ve met a whole slew of new people and they are all incredible. I can’t — I won’t pick one!

Wishing a happy new year to my blogging buddy!
Thanks, Kala!
Your number 6 made me laugh, but in a “boy can I identify with that” kind of way. Onwards and upwards, right?
Best wishes for a happy, healthy and peaceful new year.

PS Not sure why they chose Leviathon, I’d assumed it was because it means whale in Hebrew ;).
Robin — I learned that Leviathon meant whale when Disney’s Prince of Egypt came out. I was just wondering how the Bible Zoo covered that since I am assuming they don’t really have a whale. AND, onward and upward is great, just as long as it isn’t onward and outward!
I had quit blogging for a while and didn’t hear the news about Dr. John until I saw something on Thom’s sidebar. I knew he was sick and wouldn’t be with us forever, but the news still knocked me for a loop. I have a little frog wizard on my computer desk that I won (along with saffron buns) in one of his contests (my daughter claimed everything else he sent me). He said it was because “every blog has a little bit of magic”. So, I see it and still think of him every day. 🙂
Stacy — I had a Bear Chef that Dr. John gave me on top my my refrigerator. I knocked him down last week and he broke to smithereens. I stood stunned for a moment expecting a rush of pain, but I realized nothing had changed. Dr. John lives in my heart and he is still with me.
I can identify with the moving and starting over — it is still a work in progress. I can identify with #6, too.:)
Barbara — we have been here a year and adjusting is still a work in progress for us, too. As Amoeba said last night, small towns slow to accept new things and new people. That’s not to say they haven’t been friendly and welcoming, but only just now are people starting to include me as “member” rather than “guest” even though we officially joined the church almost immediately upon moving here (we’d attended it the Summer of 2007 & the Summer of 2009, so we’d already made our decision before moving here).
This is a cute meme, Quilly. I liked all of your answers — particularly your humming tunes from My Fair Lady. I love that musical — especially the Julie Andrews recording.
Gigi — I am afraid all of the songs in my head come from our local production. People say it was the very best play to date from a very accomplished theater group.
I miss Dr. John, too, and I think of him often.
Mama Zen — I think everyone who knew him does. He was thank kind of guy.
Hi Quilly!
Isn’t love grand? Sounds like you had a great year!
Take care.
Harriet — this has been one of my best years in a long, long time. I wish that was so for everybody.
Whoa! #10 is a beautiful piece and if you ever don’t want it…. call me!!
I am SO with you on #6… “A shape like an hour glass rather than a hurricane lantern.” Have you been peering behind me when I look in the mirror?
Karen – -the flash really washed it out. It is much darker than this. Neither Mona nor I could believe it when the girl told us the price.
I’m totally with you on #6!!
I think that in today’s world there are people online you “know” better than those in real life. There are several people I know from online that I consider my good friend. A couple I had the opportunity to meet in real life, and now they are real life friends, but I would be heartbroken if anything bad happened to any of them!
Love your answers regarding amoeba. Odd nickname, but so happy to see in all the craziness there are people who truly love, cherish and most importantly enjoy each other!
