Punny Monday 11.06.27
Welcome to Punny Monday. This is a fun little guessing game meant to spark your imagination and tickle your punny bone. Every Monday around midnight Pacific Time I post an original photo and ask my readers to figure out what was going on in my brain (or Amoeba’s) when he/I/we made it.
Here is the image you need to base your guess on:
What Proper Noun (place) does this photo represent? EMAIL your answers and leave a comment designed to either help or confuse your fellow game players. The first contestant to EMAIL me the right answer wins a featured link in my blog which will display until next Monday when we’ll play this little game again. Enjoy.
PLEASE, do not write your guess in the comments. It spoils the game for the other players. Your guesses will be shared when the game ends. Oh, and just because someone announces they’ve won, doesn’t mean that they have. Please keep guessing until I post the answers!

CLUE #1
As you know a Proper Noun is the formal name of a person, place or thing. In this case, we are looking for a PLACE. (Further clues –and at least one big red herring– can be found in the comments).

Almost wish I hadn’t gotten your email since it’s very late and my brain isn’t working. Maybe sleep will feed the grey matter… but of course by then, someone else will have figured it out. Thanks, as always for the game.
No one has figured it out yet. Keep guessing!
I completely forgot about it until just now. Finland is brilliant! Don’t know that I would have figured it out in any case. Contrats to Doug. Well done!
Crikey! Do you mean to say I was commenting on a previous post while missing your PM email in its entirety???
Karen — yes. And harassing Jim.
I was gone for some weeks, but I was not there, so I can’t tell you right now….8)
Mar — where you in a less fishy country?
Good grief! I’m drowning on this one.
Linda — I understand that even hell is sinking in the place I’ve depicted.
Here goes. Sending email now. Fingers crossed.
Granny Annie — that finger crossing thing rarely works.
The only answers coming to mind aren’t at all punny.
Barbara — is one is not only punny, it’s downright finny, too! I predict a really loud groan when you learn the answer.
Does anyone know what kind of fish those are?
Doug — they are cichlids, but that is irrelevant.
OK, it isn’t The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh, right?
P L A C E
It isn’t the fish that saved Pittsburg or any other politician!
(Shakes head. Bad Dawg. Did you read the vocabulary clue I always put in the paragraph under the photo?)
In fact, it is NOT a politician at all.
You mean the part of speech? Yes, I read it. That was a hilarious movie, though. Just trying to lighten the mood.
Doug — the mood needs lightening — or a trip to Europe.
OK, then I assume William Howard Taft would be wrong too.
Doug — I think you’ve swum off after a red herring. Please don’t lead any of the other players astray.
I’ll play today, thank you. I’ve sent my guess… Have a great day!
Peg — a pun is a play on words. Generally a word is used in a place where it has a double meaning — one literal and one quite ridiculous or unexpected. In the case of Punny Monday, I give a photo that represents such a word or phrase.
Okay! Now I”m lost!
Peg, this is a tough one to start with.
Doug — read my answers to everyone’s comments. One in particular should burn right through the purgatory where your thoughts have stalled.
I feel best about my wrong guesses.
I think Cleveland should’ve won, too.
Doug — I usually like the wrong guesses best, too. They are generally much more brilliant than anything I came up with.
.
Yikes. Quilly! I missed it again! 🙂 Of course it was way to hard for me.
I would have guessed McDonald’s Filet-O-Fish (sandwich) and that would have been way wrong. Anyway for fast food I like Wendy’s fish sandwiches much better.

..
.
Popeyes would have been perfect but they don’t sell fish sandwiches.
..
You’ve never had a Popeye’s Crawfish Po’Boy ? It’s a traditional favorite served on a warm baguette with lettuce, pickles and Creamy Horseradish Sauce. Perfect for those who want a hearty meal with a Cajun twist.
.
O shucks! Maybe Quilly would have let me win with that!
I did think they might sell po’boys but I doubt they could come anywhere near the ones in New Orleans. Or at any seatfood restaraunt not fast food here along the Gulf Coast.
I even cringe when I have to eat at a Red Lobster or a Joe’s Crab Shack. For a chain I choose Sam’s Boat, a Texas chain. We have one here across the lake.
..
Hey! Didn’t you tell us that Mrs. Jim is from New Orleans? I remember one time you commented about Arnaud’s Restaurant in Houston at Doug’s Walking Ambrose blog. I think that was the time Quilly and Amoeba were playing “Deception Pass.” And tsduff, too. Tempest Nightingale Le Trope was the first to comment that day.
Jim, I don’t know what world you live in, but in mine a Wendy’s Fish Sandwich isn’t a place. A Wendy’s Restaurant is though — as is a Popeye’s Restaurant, and now you’ve got me wanting Cajun gravy! Amoeba is in New Orleans right now. Maybe I’ll ask him to bring me some home.
Well…late to the game – would have guessed Rockfish…I think that’s a place…like a restuarant – I think…back to the garden for me!
Shelly — I’ve never heard of a place named Rockfish but I am sure there is one.
.
Rockfish (place) is a nice Texas seafood restaurent as is our Sam’s Boat. Much more on the seafood bit than Popeyes or MacDonald’s.
There are quite a few Rockfish’s in Texas, one near us:

Cleveland rocks!
Hi there Quilly,
You know how much I love this game you thought of. Even though I’m visiting several days late, I do so enjoy trying (in my head) and seeing the comment thread. My answer would not have won. (Rockfish- which I don’t even think is a proper noun.) Congrats to the winner and to you for creating a clever challenge.
P.S. Thanks for “liking” my FB page. Appreciate that very much. I visited your FB but there’s no tab for friending, so I’ll continue to visit you here.
