Life Through My Lens
  • .: Welcome :.

I believe in approaching life with humor. I mean, there's no point in taking it too seriously, it's not like we're going to get out alive. So step inside and prepare to laugh...

    Desert Daisies 2009.
Photo taken at the Vantage, Washington scenic overlook on the East side of the Columbia River.

Despite its namesake, parts of the Columbia River Basin are hot and dry and dusty. These flowers grew and blossomed among sage brush and rocks, but they could not sustain life in the relentless sun and oppressive heat.  They dried on the stalk and remained as a monument to themselves.

Photo taken at the Anacortes Ferry Terminal, Anacortes, WA.

This little golden beauty grew in a pot at the end of the sidewalk. It shared space with several of it’s brothers and sisters, some flashy Lamb’s Tail Joey, and a few Petunias.

This beauty grows in my Aunt Vera’s garden. She posed prettily for me so I could take her pic. I do not know her formal name — although I was told. I just call her Sunny.

    Cluster of Wild Roses 2009.

These beauties also grow in my Aunt Vera’s yard. The bush grows wild and free and has gotten so large over the years that the garden path no longer passes by it, but instead detours around it.

    Teasel 2009.

Weeds need love, too.  This is probably one of my favorite photographs.  I knew it would be when I framed the shot.  This gorgeous plant, almost as tall as I am, is as fierce as it is beautiful and arms itself with vicious spikes.  In days past, the plant’s spiky flower was dried and used as a grooming comb.  Today the dried flowers are used in floral arrangements.  I like this one best growing wild near the edge of mt Aunt’s garden.

    Llama 2009.

This is Joey. He is a shepherd and cares for the sheep on my Aunt’s & Uncle’s farm. I know he looks like a sweetheart, but many fox and other wild beasties have discovered that he is quite ferocious when protecting his sheep.

    Hummingbird Landing 2009.

This feeder hangs off the side of my Aunt’s and Uncle’s house. My Aunt estimates that about 30 hummingbirds feed there daily. She is kept busy filling the nectar tank.

    Hummingbird Flight 2009.

I wanted so badly to get photographs of hummingbirds, but didn’t think my talent was up to capturing any descent shots — luckily my camera was! Here is a hummingbird swooping in for a drink.

    Time to Blossom, 1:23 P.M. HST, 2009

This Rainshower Tree stands on the corner of Kalakaua and Seaside in Waikiki on Oahu.  The clock graces the front of the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center.  I took the photo from the 5th floor parking level of the Waikiki Business Plaza.

    Lovely Lily 2009.
Photo taken at the San Juan Winery, San Juan Island, Washington.

The gardens surrounding the San Juan Winery make it a double delight to visit there. One can sample the wine, wonder about the grounds, enjoy the exquisite flora and investigate the wedding chapel.  This is one of my favorite photos because of the way the sun highlights the petals and makes the flower seem to glow.
