Argiope Spider 2009.
Photo taken in the lady’s room at Waimanalo Beach, Oahu, Hawaii
These big colorful spiders fascinate me. They mean no harm to humans, and some scientist believe that the reason Argiope decorate their webs with huge Xs is to keep birds and people from blundering through them.  They primarily feed on small insects.

Waimanalo Beach 2009
The incredible blues of Oahu are dazzling at Waimanalo Beach. The beach is over five and a half miles long and is the largest stretch of sandy beach on Oahu.  The mansion known as “Robin’s Nest” in Magnum P.I. is in Waimanalo Beach [town]. The property is privately owned and known locally as the “Anderson Estate”.

Bee on Fuchia, 2009
This was one of my first attempts at macro photography. Since I am wholly self taught, I was a bit too macro and the only part of this photo in focus is the bee. The flower and the remainder of the background came out so grainy, I attempted to save it by applying a soft focus filter. I like this photo because it provides evidence of my journey in photography.

Balcony Seating, 2009.
This photo was taken just East of Haumana Bay at a scenic overlook along Kalanianaole Highway. There is a waist high retaining wall there which I suppose people are supposed to stay behind, but tourists scamble over it in groves — myself included. This couple, whom I do not know, had the best seat in the house for enjoying the sunshine, seaspray and view. I have no idea what made them look back at me when I snapped the photo, but I am rather glad they did. Their seat is not quite as precarious as it looks. There is another ledge just below them.

On The Edge, 2009
This photo was taken just East of Haumana Bay at a scenic overlook along Kalanianaole Highway. I do not know the man in the photo, but I knew when the wave broke behind him I would have the opportunity to capture an incredible photo.

Pigeon, 2009.
This photo was taken just East of Haumana Bay at a scenic overlook along Kalanianaole Highway. I went out to the site with the hopes of photographing a few pigeons in flight and getting a couple of spectacular scenery photos. Check out the photos before and after this one and judge for yourself whether or not I succeeded.

Flight, 2009.
This photo was taken just East of Haumana Bay at a scenic overlook along Kalanianaole Highway. I wanted to try out my new 200mm lens and attempt to capture a bird in flight. I went out, sat down on the retaining wall at the scenic overlook and snapped over 300 hundred shots of birds and people and sea, and at least 100 of the shots were birds in flight. Maybe a half dozen of those photos were acceptable, this one being the best of the lot.

Thom, 2009.
This photo was taken in my backyard during a Summer barbecue. This is my neighbor and blogging buddy, Thom. Thom is one of my favorite people here in Hawaii, but if anybody tells him I said that, I’ll deny it.

Lovely Lilies, 2009.
These gorgeous flowers are in a water glass on my dining room table. That bright white light behind them is the window. I broke the “don’t shoot directly into the light” rule on purpose. I was attempting to get a macro shot that I hoped would make the flower seem translucent. That didn’t work, but I like the shot I got anyway.

Wipe Out, 2009
High winds, high waves, high adventure — Waikiki had them all on this day! The sea spray almost drowns a small sailboat as a surfer takes a dive. This photo was taken from the seawall in Queen Kapi’olani Beach Park.
